Tonight, we ‘threw together’ a meal that, like always, left me in awe of my grandmother. Not because the meal was particularly complicated or unusual, but just seeing my nai nai in action is inspiring. She can barely walk a block without sitting down for a rest (she’s 90 – it’s cool), but get her in the kitchen, and she will take a cleaver to a bunch of cukes like nobody’s business. Mom whipped this dish up tonight after both dad and son-in-law bailed at the last minute for dinner. Their loss. I like to think this dish was made out of spite. It was DELICIOUS.
Shishito Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Lately, I’ve been really into cooking and serving shishito peppers as an appetizer to just about any meal. These little peppers are so quick and easy to make (seriously – like five minutes) and each batch you eat is like a game of Russian Roulette – one in eight tend to be extra spicy.
Spicy Tofu Meat Magic
First off, please pardon the naming of this dish. There is a real authentic Chinese name for it (香乾肉絲) but unfortunately no perceivable English translation (see Lost In Translation). So for now, we’ll call this Spicy Tofu Meat Magic. Yum!
