This may seem like a healthy veggie dish… but as my mom reveals, all is not as it appears.
Chinese Green Bean Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound of green beans, ends snapped off and cut in half
- Oil for deep frying (that’s right)
- 1 tsp Pickled kohlrabi (found at your local Asian grocery store)
- 1 tsp Dried shrimp (ditto)
- Garlic
- Soy sauce
- Salt & pepper
Instructions
- Soak the pickled kohlrabi and the dried shrimp in a cup of water for 15 minutes before starting
- Deep fry the green beans in oil for a few minutes until it starts to slightly brown
- Drain the oil and but leave a little bit in the pan to cook the rest of the dish
- Sautee the pickled kohlrabi, dried shrimp and garlic in the oil
- Add green beans, soy sauce and salt/pepper to taste
